Howard J. Hawkinson was born January 3, 1915, to Alfred and Rachel (Ness) Hawkinson in Swede Prairie Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed on May 6, 1928, at Israel Lutheran Church of Swede Prairie Township. On November 29, 1939, he married Caroline Weverba. He worked in the Minneota, Minnesota area until 1942, when he went into farming near Canby, Minnesota, until he sold out in 1947. At that time he moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He worked in construction until 1960, when he began work as a carpenter and maintenance man at Minneapolis Honeywell. Howard married Mildred (Peterson) Danielson on January 22, 1971. Howard and Mildred lived in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, until he retired from Honeywell in February of 1979, when they moved to Montevideo, Minnesota. They spent the past 20 winters as 'snowbirds' in Mesa, Arizona, where he enjoyed playing shuffleboard, playing cards and visiting. He especially enjoyed all sports. (He wouldn't miss watching a 'Twins' or 'Vikings' game if he could help it.) Howard played baseball until he was 45 years old. He hunted, loved fishing and woodworking. On August 23, 1999, Howard and Mildred moved from their home in Montevideo to an apartment in Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2469 and former member of the Moose Lodge. Howard passed away unexpectedly from pneumonia at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, on Tuesday, August 31, 1999, at the age of 84 years, 7 months, and 28 days.
