Hilda Wilhelmina, daughter of Lars and Thea (Kalve) Winson, was born in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, March 26, 1897. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Camp Release Lutheran Church. She attended the public schools of that community. At the age of twenty she was united in marriage to Henry Oakland. To this union was born one daughter, Berniece. Mr. Oakland passed away in 1922. On August 27, 1930, Hilda was married to Melvin T. Mr. and Mrs. Velde lived in Normania Township until 1953 when they moved into Clarkfield. Mr. Velde has been a lifelong member of Spring Creek Lutheran Church and Mrs. Velde has been a member since their marriage. She was an earnest Christian woman, a faithful wife, and a good mother who was deeply concerned for the spiritual as well as the temporal welfare of her family. She will be greatly missed by her husband, children, her grandchildren, her relatives and many friends. Preceding her in death are her first husband, Henry Oakland; her parents who passed away in 1950; son, Myron, who also passed away during that year; and a brother, Severin.
