Mr. Herman Fredrick Zietlow, son of August and Augusta Zietlow, was born in Germany on August 24, 1872. He was called to his eternal rest on May 3rd, 1958, at his Tyro Township home, thus living to the age of 85 years, eight months and ten days. When Mr. Zietlow reached the age of nine years, the family immigrated to America and settled down in Brown County near Springfield, Minnesota. Here he received a Christian education and was confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. On May 21, 1896, he was united in marriage to Miss Louise Amelia Therfeld, which union was blessed with nine children, two of which were called to their eternal rest in infancy. In the year 1913 the family came to Boyd, Minnesota, and lived on a farm in the Tyro community. Here Mr. Zietlow was occupied as a farmer until retirement. Most of his declining days were spent with his son Herman Zietlow, Jr. His wife, two children and an only sister preceded him into eternity. Surviving to mourn his departure are Elsie (Mrs. Otto Bohn), Alma (Mrs. Peter Johnson), Alfred, Leonard, Helen (Mrs. Theodor Pieaschke), Hulda (Mrs. Leonard Loose), And Herman Jr.; 28 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and a host of friends.
