IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Herman John
Christensen
December 13, 1876
Herman John Christenson was born December 13, 1876, in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Hans and Ingaborg (Quam) Christensen. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Thostenson and also confirmed by the same pastor in 1891 at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. He was a member of Spring Creek Lutheran Church from the days when services were held in School District 23 and in homes prior to the present church home. He attended rural school and the Madison Normal School. In 1906 he was united in marriage to Thea Maria Swenson of Clarkfield, Minnesota. To this union eight children were born, all of whom survive, namely, Irene (Mrs. Clarence Rodness), Hanford, Oren, Clifford, Herbert, LuElla (Mrs. Vernon Stokke), Walter, all of the local area, and Mavis (Mrs. Earl Craig) of Minneapolis. Mr. Christensen chose farming as his occupation and in which he engaged diligently, faithfully and successfully from the days of pioneer methods and hardships, up to the modern era, retiring in 1946 when he and his wife moved to Clarkfield. Mr. Christensen was of a quiet, home-loving nature who believed in doing more and saying less. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Thea; eight children; fourteen grandchildren; one brother, John; three sisters: Mrs. Anna Lee, Julia (Mrs. John Ford), Mrs. Ida Anderson; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Christian, George and Alex and one sister, Mrs. Caroline Carlson. Blessed be his memory. IN MEMORY OF HERMAN J.
