Herbert Warren Wilson was born on July 27, 1922, in Hazel Run Township, the son of Herbert and Maye (Brekke) Wilson. He died at the University Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Tuesday, September 2, 1975, of unconfirmed apparent encephalitis. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Hazel Run Lutheran Church by Rev. A. Haugland. Herb grew up in the Hazel Run community attending Roadside School and graduating from Clarkfield High School with the class of 1940. From 1942 to 1946 he served his country as a Naval Aviator receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Gold Stars. On June 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Camilla Olson at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church by Rev. J.E.H. Agre. They are the parents of two children, Herbert II and Heidi. Mr. Wilson farmed in the local area after his release from the Navy. For the past six years he has also been an employee at the local Farm Service Center. He has been an active member of Israel Lutheran Church as well as the Hazel Run American Legion, Yellow Medicine County Farm Bureau, 4-H Club Leader, and Tyro Town Clerk. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Carl Oliver. He is survived by his wife, Camilla; children: Herbie and Heidi; three brothers: Curtis, Donald and Leslie, all of the Hazel Run area; one sister, Lila (Mrs. Richard Lynne) of Black River Falls, Wisconsin; and uncle, Oscar Brekke; numerous nieces and nephews besides a host of relatives and friends.
