Herbert A. Hartfiel was born May 13, 1902, in Boyd, Minnesota, to Theodore Hartfiel Sr. and Emma (Kelm) Hartfiel. He was baptized in St. John's Church of Omro Township by Rev. B. Luttman. After graduation from Humbolt High School in St. Paul, Minnesota, he attended the University of Minnesota and the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where he graduated from medical school. The later years of his life were spent practicing medicine in Montevideo and Boyd. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Alfred and Edmond. Survivors include a brother, Theodore.
