Henry Charles Westphal was born March 31, 1890, to Emil and Eva (Guken) Westphal at Aurora, Wisconsin. He came to Minnesota with his parents in the early 1900s and settled on a farm near Arco, Minnesota. On September 14, 1916, he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Pochardt at Marshall, Minnesota. They farmed near Arco for a number of years. In the 1930s Mr. Westphal opened his own shoe and harness repair shop at Russell, Minnesota. He also operated a shoe repair shop at Cottonwood, Minnesota, before coming to Granite Falls, Minnesota, in 1958 where he operated his shoe shop until his retirement in 1977. Mr. Westphal became ill in August, 1978, and was hospitalized at Clarkfield April 17, 1979, and transferred to the University Hospital in Minneapolis April 20, 1979. He passed away May 16, 1979, at the age of 89 years. Mr. Westphal is survived by his wife, Marie; one brother, William of Arco; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ernest and Otto; and two sisters, Emma and an infant sister.
