Obituary

Henry Gottfried Peter Wiegers was born on March 8, 1873, in the village of Immanberg, province of Hanover, in Germany, the son of Peter Wiegers and his wife, Katharina (Lohmann). As an infant he received the gracious washing of regeneration in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and was thus received into the kingdom of our Saviour by faith. In the first year of his life, the family immigrated to America, arriving in Goodhue County, Minnesota, in 1874. Five years later the family moved to Omro Township of Yellow Medicine County, where they took up a homestead near the present family home. The father became a charter member of Saint John's Ev. Lutheran congregation and was a member of the confirmation class of 1888 under Pastor Christoph Boettcher. On June 16, 1898, Mr. Wiegers was united in the bond of holy wedlock with Miss Olga Rosenow, a bond which remained holy unto them nearly sixty full years. This union was blessed with three sons and two daughters: Leo, who died in infancy, Hulda (Mrs. Leo Lachelt) of Montevideo, Minnesota, Walter of Boyd, Minnesota, Elmer of Omro Township, and Dora, who was taken away in her youth in 1927. Mr. and Mrs. Wiegers spent their full lifetime together on the same farm in this area, and to the knowledge of the children, Mr. Wiegers was never gone from home for a period as long as his final hospitalization of two weeks. Although he had been in a weakened condition since a serious illness a few years back, Mr. Wiegers had been able to care for himself as well as for his ailing wife, until he became suddenly ill on February 6th, 1958. From this serious condidition he never recovered his strength but attained the perfect rest on February 20th, having reached the age of 84 years, 11 months and 12 days. From a family of three brothers and seven sisters, only three sisters remain to mourn his departure, namely, Mrs. Bertha Fenske of Wood Lake, Minnesota, Mrs. Ida Marquardt of Boyd, Minnesota, and Mrs. Lizette Oien of Boyd, Minnesota. Also surviving are six grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends, among who might also be mentioned Harold Jaeck, whom Mr. and Mrs. Wiegers kept in their home at the time of the death of his own mother.
