Henry Martin Jessen was born June 14, 1897, at Schleswig, Iowa, to Henry and Christina (Bastian) Jessen. He was baptized July 25, 1897, at Otter Creek, Iowa. He was confirmed April 6, 1913, at Immanuels Lutheran Church in Harrold, South Dakota. On December 24, 1929, he married Helena Hieb. To this union four sons and one daughter were born. He spent his entire life on the farm, until January 18, 1986, at which time he fell and broke his hip. He entered the Montevideo Hospital and later was transferred to the Clarkfield Care Center. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and carpentering. He is survived by his wife, Helena; five children, Irvin and daughter-in-law Marlys, Veryl, Alfred and daughter-in-law Deanna, Eleanor and son-in-law Kenneth Block, Herbert and daughter-in-law Inez. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren include Jeffrey Jessen, Jayne and Dennis Baumann, Rita and Craig, Bradley and Theresa Jessen and Stephanie, Ronald and Tamara Jessen, Ericka and Erin, Kathleen Jessen, Scott, Mark and Neil Jessen, Brian and Brenda Block, Heather and Barbara, Larry and Lisa Block, Brandon, Brenda, Kari and Sharie, Kelly Jessen, Kimberly Jessen; half brother Frank Erp; half sister Lilly Schmitt; and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Herman Jessen; sister, Hannah Lohafer; one daughter-in-law; and three grandchildren. Henry Jessen passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 1987, at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 89 years and 10 months. Funeral Services were held on Friday, April 17, 1987, at 11:00 a.m. from the Lynner Funeral Home Chapel in Clarkfield. Officiating was Mr. John Elliott. Special music was by the Jessen Family. Final Resting place is the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of Boyd, Minnesota. Arrangements by Lynner Funeral Home Since 1891 Clarkfield Minnesota
