Henry Ernest Broughton was born October 29, 1912, to parents Andrew and Ida (Hanson) Broughton, rural Minneota, Minnesota. He graduated from Minneota High School, Minneota, Minnesota, in 1932. On October 18, 1935, he was married to Myrna Reishus at the Ted and Agnes Reishus farm in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was a lifelong member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church. Besides farming, Henry served on many local boards, including the Normania Rural Telephone Company, The Cottonwood Co-op Oil Co., The Western Co-op Transport Association, and several leadership positions at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. He also worked for the Rural Electric Association, bringing electrical power to the rural areas. Henry enjoyed listening to good music and enjoyed the opportunities to provide music for others through his singing and his musical saw. He especially enjoyed singing with the St. Lucas Church Choir. Henry passed away at Woodrest Health Care Center in Walker, Minnesota, on Friday, May 26, 2006, at the age of 93 years, 6 months, and 27 days. He is survived by his wife, Myrna, residing at May Creek Lodge, Walker, Minnesota; sons: Lynn (Mary Jaye) of Garrison, Minnesota, and Warren (Karen) of Benedict, Minnesota. He is also survived by grandchildren: Jon (Sandy) Broughton, Sarah (Scott) Peelman, Susan (John) Orth, Bill Birjkovff, Karl (Maiji) Braaten, and Sonja (Joe) Short; and great grandchildren Kayla and Joey Peelman, Elisabeth and David Broughton, and Wesley Birjkovff. Henry is also survived by his sister, Agnes Severson; one niece, Ihleen (Gary) Williams; and nephews: Aden (Julie) Severson, David (Zan) Severson, Paul (Marion) Wegener and Calvin (Alice) Broughton. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Carl, Alvin, and William; and by his sister Mae (Harold) Wegener. Blessed be his memory.
