Henry Walter Williams was born on a farm near Lonsdale, Minnesota, on October 18, 1886. Henry was the youngest child In a family of thirteen children. His parents died when he was a very young child, and he was raised to young manhood by Mr. and Mrs. Chris Wilson of Hazel Run, Minnesota. Henry attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, Class of 1910. In 1921 he married Hilma Rodness of Clarkfield. They spent 44 years together in Clarkfield until Hilma died in 1965. Both were members of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Henry, well known as Bill, was active in baseball in Western Minnesota for many years. Bill managed the Clarkfield Baseball team from the 1920s through the 1950s. In 1959 Bill was elected to the Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to baseball in Minnesota. Bill spent most of his adult life in Life Insurance underwriting. He was one of the founders of the Community Mutual Benefit Association located in Madison, Minnesota. Bill died on February 25, 1978, at the age of 91 years and 4 months. He led a long, full, and active life and was blessed with good health. He is survived by his son Walter and daughter-in-law Sally; and five grandchildren: Linda, Nancy, Stacy, Danny, and Kelly all of Minneapolis. Blessed be his memory!
