Helge J. Hauge, the eldest child of Jens and Joanna (Wangsnes) Hauge, was born February 16, 1872, near DeForest, Wisconsin. When he was one year old his parents settled on the homestead in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where the family still resides. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith, and has been a member of the Bergen Lutheran Church all his life. He attended grade school in Yellow Medicine County. Later he attended Commercial College in Willmar, Minnesota. He was an expert mechanic, and for several years directed the making and maintenance of machinery for the State of Minnesota. He has also been a farmer, and a small town editor. On December 23, 1922, he was united in marriage to Ragna Appleseth of Clarkfield. He died at the Olivia Hospital on January 10, 1957, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 6 days. He is survived by his widow; one son, Harris; three grandchildren; two brothers, Ingebret and Carl of Clarkfield; and three sisters: Jennie (Mrs. Arthur Lund) of Willmar, Minnesota, Selma of Clarkfield, and Mabel (Mrs. Eugene Shepard) of Lake Wilson, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. IN MEMORY OF HELGE J.
