Helen O. Wolsund was born October 11, 1889, to David and Mary (Larson) Maltrud at the Maltrud homestead in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. Helen was a lifelong member of Bergen Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. On December 16, 1911, she married Olaf A. Wolsund and to this union one child, Margaret was born. Typical of Norwegian women's dedication to family, Helen spent her entire life in Stony Run Township serving family and friends. After 93 years of life, Helen died on February 7, 1983, at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital, Granite Falls, Minnesota. Her survivors include son-in-law, Charles Rachie; granddaughter, Carolyn Olson; her great grandchildren, Cory, Rachel and Matthew Olson; and nephew J. Douglas Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband Olaf Wolsund; her daughter Margaret Rachie; her parents David and Mary Maltrud; her sister Bertha Marie Nelson; and her brother Olaf Maltrud.
