IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen Caroline
(Hanson) Torgerson
May 7, 1908 – April 30, 1971
Helen Caroline Hanson was born May 7, 1908, in rural Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Mads T. and Caroline (Melby) Hanson. At the age of five, her parents moved to Boyd, Minnesota. Four years later, her mother passed away after which time, she made her home with the Oscar Olsons. In 1924, the Olson family moved to Montevideo, Minnesota, where she lived until 1932 when she married Walter Torgerson and moved to Currie, Minnesota. In 1941, she and her family moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota, where she has since resided. To this union, two children were born, Joan (Mrs. Orville Stevens) of Denver, Colorado, and Curtis of Boyd, Minnesota. She passed away at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital on Friday, April 30, 1971, after years of suffering accepted in a cheerful manner, just seven days before her 63rd birthday. Along with her children, she is survived by two grandsons: James Stevens and Mark Torgerson; three brothers and one sister: Ben of Cokato, Minnesota, Gerhard of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Harold of Clarkfield and Mable (Mrs. S.M. Swenson) of Dawson, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; brother, Tom; and sister, Bertha. As commented at her service, "Toots" as she was affectionately known by her many friends and loved ones, spent much of her time doing good for others. She was active in her church and in the Clarkfield Garden Club. Although she was afflicted and crippled with arthritis the past several years, she was very capable in working with flowers and catering weddings. Her cheery disposition was an inspiration to all who new her. IN MEMORY OF HELEN C.
