Helen Marie (Cooke) Hargrave July 25, 1923 ~ February 25, 2015 Helen Marie (Cooke) Hargrave, daughter of Harold Vincent Cooke and Mabel Carrie (Nelson) Cooke, was born July 25, 1923, in Rolfe, Iowa. She spent her childhood years helping her parents on the dairy farm. She graduated from Ruthven Iowa High School in 1940 where she was a star basketball player. Helen married Arthur Hargrave on January 15, 1942. During their 61 years of marriage they farmed first in Iowa until 1952, then they moved to Minnesota and farmed until 1973, when their sons took over the farm. Helen and Art built a home on the farm in Boyd and continued to reside there. They also enjoyed traveling in their motor home. After Art's death, Helen married longtime friend Ray Onken. Helen was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. Helen passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at the age of 91 years and 7 months. She is survived by a daughter, Connie (Eddie) Gage of Boyd, Minnesota, and Dewey, Oklahoma; two sons: Terry (Eileen) of Pierz, Minnesota, and Lerry (Gloria) of Boyd, Minnesota; a step-son, Ron (Karen) Onken; and two step-daughters: Cheri Tihinen and Vicki Lein. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; three brothers: Clarence, Harry and Kenny Cooke; six sisters: Margie Olson, Charlotte Beddow, Edie Staver, Nancy Shryock, Joy Peterson and Louise Anderson; and two sisters-in-law: Thelma Kress and Donna Keadstrup. Helen was a loving wife, and worked alongside Art on the farm. She loved children and raised three of her own to be loving and caring to their spouses. Her grandchildren and great- grandchildren loved her dearly. Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, Art Hargrave and Ray Onken; her parents; and brother, Vance Cooke. Blessed be her memory.
