Hazel Lillie Anderson was born October 31, 1915, in Ladner, South Dakota, to parents Edward and Mae (Lee) Moseng. She was baptized at Ladner, South Dakota, and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran of Ashby, Minnesota. Hazel married Robert J. Anderson on May 1, 1937, at Sisseton, South Dakota. They were blessed with two daughters: Roberta and Sharon. Hazel and Robert spent their entire married life in Ashby. They operated the Highway Inn for many years. Hazel also worked at the Standard Cafe and in the laundry department of the Ashby Nursing Home. Hazel remained in Ashby after the death of her husband in 1993 until August of 1994. At that time she moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota. She was a resident of Valhalla Apartments at the time of her death. Hazel passed away on Thursday evening, March 28, 1996, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 28 days. She is survived by her daughters: Roberta (and Clark) Field of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Sharon (and Roger) Johnson of Waconia, Minnesota; and sister Edna Lohse of Ashby. She is also survived by five grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, and one granddaughter. Hazel was a loving and kind mother. She loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
