Hazel M. (Lathrop) Johnson October 10, 1921 ~ September 19, 2012 Hazel M. Johnson was born on October 10, 1921, in Redfield, South Dakota, to parents Lloyd and Ida (Klock) Lathrop. She was united in marriage to Alvin R. Johnson on September 28, 1940, at Lake Benton, Minnesota. They were the parents of two children: Marie and Dale. Hazel worked with Alvin on the farm at their home near Lake Benton. After they left the farm, they moved to Tracy, Minnesota, and then again relocated to the Boyd-Clarkfield area, where Hazel worked at the Clarkfield Community Hospital. In 1981 Hazel and Alvin moved to Granite Falls. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and providing daycare for others. She enjoyed gardening, baking and sharing that with many. She loved putting puzzles together, visiting and listening to Daniel O'Donnell music. She was fortunate to attend one of his concerts in Minneapolis. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hazel was a wonderful mother and grandparent, always protecting and providing blessings to her family with her joy, comforting hugs and devoted love. Hazel passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Granite Manor at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 9 days. She is survived by her daughter Marie (Gary) Holtan of Granite Falls and their children: James and his children Jenesus and Jeneva, Jennifer (Chris Lorenzen) and family Annabelle and Koltan; son Dale of Hutchinson and his children Tyler and Noah. She is also survived by sister Ella DeVries of Slayton, sister-in-law Beverly Lathrop, nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin (1999), brother Archie (Bud) Lathrop and sisters Loretta and Viola. We will miss her always and will carry her blessed memory in our hearts with the promise of a Heavenly reunion. In Loving Memory of Hazel M.
