Hazel Trudelia Johnson, of Clarkfield, Minnesota, passed away at Riverside Assisted Living, Granite Falls, Minnesota, on April 15, 2006, at the age of 95 years. A lifelong resident of the Clarkfield-Hazel Run, Minnesota communities, she was born April 28, 1910, to parents Hans and Thrina (Gunderson) Johnson. Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters Thelma Idland and Gladys Edmunds; brothers Raymond, Eddie, Guy, John and Stewart. Hazel was a 1929 graduate of Clarkfield High School, and attended St. Cloud Teachers College. She left school following the accidental death of her father in 1931, returning home to assist in the family farm operation. She was active in the 4-H organization during her teen years, raising and showing purebred Holsteins from the family herd. She resumed this special interest after her college years, became a 4-H leader and was instrumental in founding the Hazel Run-Stony Run Club. Hazel taught Sunday School for many years, was active in the Clarkfield Garden Club, Homemakers, and the Hospital Auxiliary. She was employed in the Clarkfield school cafeteria for a number of years. Later, she lived briefly in Willmar, Minnesota, caring for her sister Thelma, who received kidney dialysis treatment for a period. While there, she was employed at Rice Memorial Hospital and the Willmar Care Center. Following her sister's death, Hazel moved back to Clarkfield in the 1970s, and became a faithful member and active participant at Clarkfield Lutheran Church into her 90s. Throughout most of her life, Hazel had a hobby of memorizing, including many poems, Bible verses and hymns. She was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball fan and enjoyed watching television game shows and playing cards with friends. A loving aunt to 13 nieces and nephews, she is survived by Marilyn (Roger) Nelson, Ardis (Lloyd) Pederson, Ardith (James) Lund, Wanda (William) Krause, Gladys Johnson, Karen (Clem) Gittens, Warren (Lorraine), Howell (Joyce), Guy L. (Yvonne) and Harvey (Toni) Johnson, Keith (Georgia), Ronald (Judy), and Robert (Sharon) Edmunds, along with many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
