Hazel Loose died Sunday, February 5, 2017, at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 95. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. Rev. Robert F. Vedell will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9 at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. There will be visitation at the church for one hour before the funeral. Hazel Otilia (Haukos) Loose was born April 19, 1921, in Lake Shore Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota, the daughter of Olaf and Oline (Halvorson) Haukos. She was baptized May 22, 1921, at Hegre Lutheran Church and confirmed May 19, 1935, at Ness Lutheran Church. Hazel attended rural school in District #49. She was united in marriage with Elmer Loose at Hegre Lutheran Church, rural Madison. To this union three daughters were born: Arlene, Carol, and Ruth Ann. They lived with Elmer's parents before moving to a farm east of St. Leo. They moved to the Hagan farm southwest of Hazel Run in 1944. They were active members of the Hazel Run Lutheran Church. In the spring of 1977, they moved to a house across from the golf course in Montevideo. Elmer died December 28, 1997. Hazel later moved into an apartment in Montevideo and then to the Clarkfield Care Center. Hazel enjoyed making quilts, crocheting, cooking, baking, and tending to her many beautiful violets. In the early 1980s she took a Hardanger class and made four original doilies which were published in the Hardanger Award winning books. She later learned to tat and made many doilies of hardanger and tatting. She is survived by her daughters: Arlene (John) Todd of Warner Robins, GA, Carol Krassoi of Villa Park, IL, and Ruth Ann (Rich) Van Overbeke of El Dorado Hills, CA; four grandchildren: Michael Todd, Michelle Todd, Lisa (Allan) Will, and Ron (Autumn) Van Overbeke; five great- grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Elmer; two brothers: James and Olanzo; three sisters: Hazel in infancy, Myrtle Shelstad, and Cora Ernst; and a son-in-law, Bill Krassoi.
