Services for Mrs. Hattie Toombs were held at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 8, 1972. She passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 1972, at the Dawson Nursing Home. She was a member of the local church since moving to Clarkfield. Hattie Luella McMullen was born September 17, 1880, at Manville, Wisconsin, to John and Mary (Cochron) McMullen. At the age of two she moved with her family to Minnesota and made her home in Maxwell Township of Lac qui Parle County. She was married June 1, 1903, in Madison, Minnesota, to Ernest Toombs from Hampton, Minnesota. There the two made their home until September, 1911. At that time, they moved from Hampton to Maxwell Township where they farmed until Mr. Toombs passed away in 1945. At that time, she moved to Clarkfield where she has since made her home. To Hattie and Ernest Toombs were born two sons and four daughters: Raymond, now living in West Fargo, North Dakota, Bessie (Mrs. Sam Wolford) of Dawson, Minnesota, Elsie (Mrs. Gerhard Halverson) of Clarkfield, Stella (Mrs. Joseph Ellefson) of Estelline, South Dakota, and Clayton of Dawson. One daughter died in infancy. She is survived by her sons and daughters, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Bessie (Mrs. Charles Johannson) of Dawson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, two brothers and four sisters.
