Harry Emil Peter West was born on November 30, 1904 to Selma (Olson) and Peter West in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Spring Creek Lutheran Church, rural Clarkfield. Emil attended Country School and finished the Eighth Grade. He farmed for several years with his brother, Alfred. On December 12, 1953, he married Alida (Stokke) Anundson. Together with her daughter, Norma, they formed a family. In 1957 one daughter, Rebecca, was born to their union. Emil continued to farm until his retirement in 1971. In the years that followed, he enjoyed gardening and selling his produce locally. He was also an avid reader. He has served on the council at Spring Creek and as a weed inspector for Normania Township. Emil entered the Clarkfield Care Center in 1991. In 1994 he was transferred to the White Care Center at White, South Dakota. Emil passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 1995 at the Hendricks Community Hospital at the age of 90 years, 1 month, and 11 days. He is survived by his daughter Becky (Allen) Klapprodt of Toronto, South Dakota; step-daughter Norma (Larry) Dahlman of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, Canada. Also four grandchildren: Daniel and Dana Klapprodt of Toronto, South Dakota, Lowell Dahlman of Camrose, Alberta, and Sonja Dahlman of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; one sister-in-law, Aletta West of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews. Emil was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alida, sister Martha, brothers: William, Oscar, and Alfred, and one sister and one brother in infancy.
