Obituary

Harry M. Kirkeby was born September 3, 1911, at the farm home in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was the son of Olaus and Inga (Olson) Kirkeby. He was baptized and confirmed at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. He attended the Clarkfield Public School. Harry had a great love for music and sang many years in the Lutheran Church Choir, the Hauge Male Chorus, in Quartets and Octets. He was narried December 30, 1938, to Alice Husby at St. Peter's Lutheran Church near Boyd, Minnesota. They have a daughter, Louisa Ann. Harry farmed for several years near Clarkfield and Boyd, after which he was a salesman. He attended the Vocational Technical Institute in Minneapolis for eighteen months where he took a course in Radio and T V Repair. He was in business with Leland Johnson for a few years. He later opened a shop in Dawson and then a shop in Boyd. Harry had surgery at the University hospital for lung cancer in September of 1975 from which he never fully recovered. He passed away at the Clarkfield Memorial Hospital on February 14, 1977, at the age of 65. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Louisa Ann; son-in-law, Danny Tongen; sisters: Marian Hanson of Montevideo, Minnesota, Charlotte Vik, San Antonio, Texas, Grace Wold, Palo Alto, California, Helen Anderson of Clarkfield, Dorothy Peterson, Los Altos, California; brothers: Juel Kirkeby, Big Lake, Minnesota, Lloyd Kirkeby of Clarkfield; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
