Harry Gilbertson was born March 13, 1907, on a farm in Baxter Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota, near Boyd, to John and Ida (Dahl) Gilbertson. He was baptized in the St. Petri Lutheran Church of Camp Release Township of Lac qui Parle County, in 1907, and confirmed by the Reverend E.C. Eid in Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd in 1922. He was a lifetime member of this congregation. At the age of two he moved with his family to a farm four miles west of Boyd, where he resided for twenty-two years. He attended school in District No. 72 in Maxwell Township. In 1931 he and his parents moved to the farm east of Boyd where he lived at the time of his death. Harry was stricken with cancer in August of 1977 and submitted to surgery the same month. Chemical therapy had since that time been administered through the Willmar Medical Center. He passed away at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson on Wednesday evening, January 3, at the age of 71 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, George, and one niece, Mrs. Paul Saue. He is survived by two brothers: Arnold of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Edwin of Boyd; two sisters: Mrs. Gertie Stevens of Boyd and Mrs. Peder Eidem of Montevideo, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. Harry had a variety of hobbies during his lifetime. He was especially interested in nature so enjoyed outdoor projects. He also had a keen interest in children and found real pleasure in entertaining them when they visited the farm. He will be sadly missed by his family and a host of friends.
