(Nelson) Tokheim
October 10, 1919 – June 22, 2004
Harriet C. Tokheim was born on October 10, 1919, at Woden, Iowa, to parents Lewis and Ida (Kallem) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was confirmed at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church of Thor, Iowa. Harriet married Olaf W. Tokheim at Mason City, Iowa, on April 9, 1938. This union was blessed with three children: Roger L., Marilyn Ann and Gene Edward. Olaf and Harriet farmed in Tyro Township near Clarkfield, Minnesota, for over 50 years. She was a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church where she was involved in many activities including WELCA. Harriet was a long time leader in the Tyro 4-H Club. Besides her volunteer activities she worked at the former Coast-to-Coast Store in Clarkfield and the Clarkfield Care Center. She had a passion for caregiving. Harriet died peacefully on Tuesday morning, June 22, 2004, at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson, Minnesota. She was 84 years old. Harriet is survived by her children: Roger (and Carrie) Tokheim of Hastings, Minnesota, Marilyn Ann Tokheim of Smithville, Ohio, and Gene (and Lucy) Tokheim of Dawson, Minnesota; grandchildren: Dan (and Natalie) Tokheim, Marshall (and Rachael) Tokheim, Nathan Farver, Rachel (and Tony) Grifo, Samuel Tokheim, Luke Tokheim, and Ben Tokheim. Also surviving are great grandchildren: Jackson, Alexandra and Anna Tokheim and Daniel Grifo; sister Iris (and Russell) Champion; and brother Merle (and Neva) Nelson. Harriet is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Olaf; her parents (Ida and Lewis); and brothers: Leon, Russell, Bernard, and Dean (Julian Dean was killed in WW II action in Europe in 1945).
