Harriet Lorraine (Nelson) Skulstad was born October 9, 1922, in Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Arnold and Edna (Berg) Nelson. She was baptized and was confirmed at Granite Falls Lutheran Church, Granite Falls, Minnesota, on May 3, 1936. She attended school in both Clarkfield and Granite Falls. She graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1940. Harriet married Carl Skulstad in Clarkfield on February 6, 1942. They farmed in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where they were active in both their church and community. Harriet was active in ALCW, Homemakers, choir and as a 4-H advisor. She enjoyed family and friends and was know especially for her entertaining and cooking as well as working in her garden. Harriet passed away at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 23 days. She is survived by her three sons: James and his wife Roxanne of Lincoln, Nebraska, Howard and his wife Kristin of St. Francis, Minnesota, Curtis and his wife Cindy of Granite Falls, Minnesota; and her two daughters: Carol Skulstad of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Susan Engel and her husband Steve of Bemidji, Minnesota. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Erik and his wife, Jennifer, Holly, Jude and his wife, Jen, Hans and his wife Jennie, Rachel, Scott, Sarah and her husband Bryan, Stephanie and Susan; one great-grandchild, Gate Skulstad, and sisters Violet Nelson of Seattle, Washington, and Doris (and Harold) Kvanvig of Aitkin, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1993, and her parents Arnold and Edna Nelson. Blessed be her memory.
