Obituary

Harold J. Benson was born January 4, 1912, in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota to Thomas and Bertina (Eide) Benson, as the fourth of twelve children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bergen Lutheran Church, of Stony Run Township, and was raised in an active agricultural environment. Harold entered the United States Army in March, 1942, where he served in the 3459th Ordnance Medium Automotive Maintenance Company in North Africa, Italy, and the Phillipine Islands. He was honorably discharged in November, 1945 and returned to farming in Stony Run Township. In June, 1947 Harold was united in marriage to Blanche Korstad of Boyd, Minnesota. To this union were born two children, Bonalyn and Harvey. Harold was engaged in farming in Yellow Medicine County until 1962, and in the Boyd area until 1967. In the following years he was employed by Associated Milk Producers, Inc. (AMPI) in Clarkfield until his retirement in 1976. Closely following his retirement, began a struggle with Parkinsons Disease, which caused, numerous hospitalizations. Harold was admitted to Mt. Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 11, 1980, where he passed away on August 21, 1980, at the age of 68. Harold is survived by his wife, Blanche; daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Don Randall of Chamberlain, South Dakota; son and daughter-in-law Harvey and Diane Benson of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; grandchildren Shelley and Scott Randall and Andy and Peter Benson; seven sisters, Esther Dahlgren of Phoenix, Arizona, Corella, Mrs. Oscar Rasmussen of Silverdale, Washington, Thelma, Mrs. Stewart Berg of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Ruth, Mrs. John Laemmle of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, Mrs. Minnie Johnson, of Boyd, Minnesota, Linda, Mrs. Hilman Korstad of Boyd, Minnesota, Ellen, Mrs. Marvin Weigt of Mankato, Minnesota; three brothers, Eldor of Bakersfield, California, Thoralf and Oliver of Boyd, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. A quiet, conscientious man, Harold was very fond of music, particularly organ music.
