IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harlan Jerome
Moseng
April 20, 1937 – May 22, 2008
Harlan Jerome Moseng was born April 20, 1937, to Josie (Morseth) and Henry Moseng in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was the oldest of three children. He was baptized at home and confirmed at Baxter Lutheran Church. Harlan attended first through fourth grade in Granite Falls, Minnesota, then moved west of Montevideo where he attended country school through eighth grade. Thereafter he attended Central High School in Montevideo and graduated in 1955. He was a member of the National Guard from 1955 to 1961. Harlan married Carol Peterson on April 11, 1959, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield, Minnesota. They farmed west of Montevideo until 1964 when they moved west of Clarkfield and raised their four children. Harlan enjoyed farming, milking cows and raising pigs. From 1978 - 1989 Harlan worked at PPG in Marshall, Minnesota, until the plant closed. He then worked at the sugar beet plant in Renville, Minnesota, until retiring in 2005. Harlan was a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church where he was a former church president, treasurer and Sunday School teacher. He was on the Call Committee and attended Adult Bible Study. Harlan was a kind and humble man. He had a love of conversation, storytelling and meeting new people. In his younger years, hunting and fishing were his pastimes. He enjoyed traveling, especially the trip to Norway where he fulfilled his genealogical interests. A big history buff, Harlan spent many hours watching the History Channel and acquiring historical trivia through the internet. He treasured spending time with his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours on bleachers watching them participate in sporting events, rarely missing a game all these years. Harlan enjoyed reading, singing, playing cards and dominoes, gardening and making soup. His Norwegian prayer and "famous meatballs" will be missed at family gatherings. Harlan passed away at his home on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the age of 71 years. He is survived by his wife, Carol; children: Dr. Bradley Moseng of Montevideo, Brenda (and Frank) Vanderveur of Alexandria, Minnesota, Dr. Bruce Moseng of Cottonwood, Arizona, and Dr. Brent (and Deja) Moseng of Flagstaff, Arizona; eight granddaughters: Jami, Carli, Brook and Laura Moseng, Ashley and Kayla Vanderveur, Bella and Macie Moseng; sister Beverly (and Arden) Anderson; brother Elwood (and Betty Burgess) Moseng; sister-in-law Linda (and Rick) Kohn; brothers-in-law LeRoy and Dale Peterson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
