Harlan Dennis Martinson was born December 30, 1935, at the Clarkfield Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Oscar and Olga (Anderson) Martinson. He was baptized at the English Lutheran Church of Boyd, Minnesota, and graduated from Boyd High School in 1953. Harley went to work in Minneapolis, Minnesota, following graduation. He worked for the Culverism Club in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, for 2-3 years and then went into construction work and working on the highline power lines, first in the Boyd-Montevideo area and then working in Colorado, North Dakota, and Montana. He also worked for Hanson Construction of Boyd. Harley served in the United States Army from 1958-1960, serving part of his career in Germany. Upon returning home he went back to working in the construction field. His hobbies included woodworking and gardening, which he did much of while living in Boyd. Harlan suffered a heart attack in February of 2003, but previously to that, he spent nine years on kidney dialysis. He entered the Clarkfield Care Center, Clarkfield, Minnesota, in June of this year, following a lengthy stay in hospitals in Minneapolis and Montevideo. He passed away at the Care Center on Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at the age of 67 years, 9 months, and 8 days. He is survived by his daughter Ramona (and Robert) Schmitz of Springfield, Minnesota, and special friend of 40+ years, Giena Nilson of Boyd. He is also survived by grandchildren: Cory Schmitz of Springfield, Kristy (and Troy) Booth of New Ulm, Minnesota, and Kelly Schmitz and Katie Jo Schmitz, both of Springfield; great grandchildren: MacKenzie, Jayda, Jaydon, Taylor, Gavin, and Ethan; brother Duane (and Ruth) Martinson of Okoboji, Iowa; and nephews: Larry Martinson and Duane Carlson, both of Milford, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
