IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hardell Elwood
Holm
May 4, 1932 – May 24, 2012
Hardell E. Holm (May 4, 1932 ~ May 24, 2012) Hardell Elwood Holm was born May 4, 1932, to Hilda (Hognestad) Holm and August Holm, the fourth of five children. He attended school in Clarkfield and Boyd before graduating from Hector High School in 1950, where he played basketball and football. After graduation, he served four years as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy, at one point witnessing the aftermath of U.S. nuclear testing at Bikini atoll. In 1956, he married Doreen Velma Kaufmann. They lived in Olivia, Rochester, Minneapolis and Omaha, Nebraska, as he pursued a career with Northwestern Bell. He retired in 1986. He was a longtime member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine Legion of Honor and recently had joined the Kiwanis. He did volunteer work at a hospital in Omaha. He loved to travel, tackling Disney World with his grandchildren and zip-lining through the Costa Rica rainforest in his 60s, and cruising through the Baltic's and basking in the Caribbean sun in his 70s. At home, he was hard to beat at golf, pool and cribbage. After his wife died in 1993, he lived for a time in Apache Junction, Arizona, and Osoyoos, British Columbia, where he cherished many friends, including his longtime companion, Doris Walton. He passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012, in his sleep during a casino excursion near Mille Lacs Lake at the age of 80. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Diane and Ken Mynster of Omaha, Nebraska, and Cynthia and Don Henry of Moorestown, New Jersey; grandchildren: Frederic and Jacob Henry of Moorestown, New Jersey; brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Donna Holm of Hutchinson, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Harley; and sisters, Avis Lundy and Ardis Miller. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fl., 33607 or www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org. In Loving Memory of Hardell E.
