Obituary

Mrs. Hannah Rikke Larson passed away at the Madison Hospital Friday morning, December 21, 1956, at the age of 84 years, eight months and sixteen days. Mrs. Larson was born in Chippewa County, April 5, 1872, on a farm about five miles east of Montevideo, one of nine children born to Christopher and Johanna (Berge) Gaarder. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and attended school near her childhood home. In young womanhood, she spent some time working in Granite Falls and Minneapolis. In 1894, she was married to Oscar Rikke, who preceded her in death. Four children survive, namely, Oliver of Montevideo, Minnesota, John of Boyd, Minnesota, Mamie (Mrs. Clarence Halstenson) of Dawson, Minnesota, and Herman of Minneapolis. In 1924 she was married to L.W. Larson, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Larson lived alone in Clarkfield for a number of years. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church. For the past five years, she made the Lutheran Home at Madison, Minnesota, her residence. She enjoyed fairly good health until about two years ago when she showed signs of failing. Besides reading her Bible, she spent much time gathering pictures and poems of a religious nature. During her stay at the hospital, she was critically ill for about two weeks. She bore this suffering with great endurance. From then on she grew gradually weaker and slept peacefully away. Other survivors are nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two brothers: Carl Gaarder of Denhoff, North Dakota, and Otto Gaarder of Norco, California; and a number of nieces and nephews.
