Hanford Sylvan Christensen was born November 24, 1908, to parents Herman and Thea (Swenson) Christensen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith in Spring Creek Lutheran Church, of which he was a life long member. Hanford attended school in District #23 and then began farming at a very early age, and it became his career. Hanford and Gladys Haaland were married June 7, 1936. Their home was blessed with a son, Hanford James. Gladys passed away May 17, 1986. Hanford continued to live on his farm a few years, but then moved to Clarkfield. Hanford enjoyed farming and traveling. His favorite trip was with his brother Oren to Alaska. He enjoyed Senior Citizen meetings, visiting with friends, doing wood carvings, and making hook rugs. He also served in various ways in his church and community. He passed away at his home in Clarkfield on Sunday evening, January 5, 1997, at the age of 88 years, 1 month, and 13 days. He is survived by son Hanford James (and Janet) of Corpus Chisti, TX, and granddaughter, Melanie; three sisters Irene Rodness and Luella Stokke of Clarkfield and Mayvis Etrheim of Granite Falls, and two brothers Herbert and Walter (both of Clarkfield) plus 18 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, and two brothers: Oren and Clifford. Hanford was a very kind, gentle, loving person and will be sadly missed by all of us. Blessed be his memory.
