Gunner Odden of Canby, Minnesota, was born July 4, 1895, to Hans Overland and Anne Odden of Slejord, Telemark, Norway, one of five children. He was baptized and confirmed in Seljord Church coming to America in 1913 at the age of 17 to his aunt Anna, Mrs. Ole Norgard, near Hazel Run. He married Emma Lindblad of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, March 14, 1920. To this union one daughter, Anna (Mrs. Stanley Lee) was born. He farmed for several years near Hazel Run and Rock Valle, then moved to Granite Falls were he worked before moving to Canby. In December of 1974 he had surgery at Sioux Falls Hospital after which he suffered a stroke and was moved to the Nursing Home in Canby where he had been residing until his death. He passed away at the Canby Hospital on Thursday, February 17, 1977, at the age of 81. He enjoyed working with his hands and made a Norwegian Hardanger Violin which he also played. His Norwegian designs carved in wood were well known in the area as he had done many different pieces, wall plaques and also tub chairs. Survivors are his wife, Emma Odden of Windom; daughter Anna of Phoenix, Arizona; brother Ole Odden of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews, both in this country and in Norway. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers Steinar and Eric; and sister Margit.
