Gordy Clifford Swanson was born in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on December 12, 1908, the son of Robert and Christine (Lundstrom) Swanson. He attended country school and Clarkfield High School, graduating in 1930. He had become crippled while very young. After his family moved from the farm, they lived in the Clarkfield and Hanley Falls area. His father died in 1936. The family moved to Austin, Texas, where his mother died in 1958. Then Gordy and his sister Evelyn moved back to Granite Falls where they lived until a year ago, when they returned to Austin. Gordy suffered a severe stroke and died at Brackenridge Hospital, Austin, Texas, on June 9, 1978, at the age of 69 years. He is survived by his sister Evelyn and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Roy in 1973, and an infant brother, Levi.
