Gordon E. Knutson was born on December 14, 1929, on a farm in Wergeland Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Esther (Skjonsby) and Henry Knutson. He was baptized and confirmed at Porter Lutheran Church in Porter, Minnesota. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Alabama. After his discharge, he returned to Porter and worked in the farm implement business. Later he moved to Cottonwood, Minnesota, where he worked for LeMon Implement. Eventually, he bought LeMon Implement with partner Bruce Snyder and formed K&S Implement. On July 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Rickard at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. After leaving the implement business, he was employed by Lakeview School. He retired in June of 2000, after 15 years of service to the school. Gordon was a past commander of the Legion Post 503, and was currently the Commander of the Legion Firing Squad. He retired from the Cottonwood Fire Department after serving for 20 years. Gordon was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church and it's choir for 46 years. He enjoyed fishing and camping, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Gordon passed away Thursday evening, October 16, 2003, at the Granite Falls Hospital, Granite Falls, Minnesota, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 2 days. He is survived by his wife Bonnie; children Brian (Kathy) of Cottonwood, Steve (Sandy) of Marshall, Minnesota, Brett (Sarah) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren: Kris and Jon, Jacob and Megan; brothers Harvey (Pearl) of Canby, Minnesota, Curt (Lou) of Porter, Minnesota; and sister Beatrice (Harold) Mueller of Canby, Minnesota. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents.
