Glenyce Akre was born on July 31, 1939 at Clarkfield, Minnesota to parents Orville and Glenda (Arneson) Kompelien. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church, rural Cottonwood. Glenyce graduated from Cottonwood High School. Glenyce married George Lewis and to this union three children were born: Jeffrey, Lori and Todd. Glenyce was employed at Empire State Bank of Cottonwood and Eischsen Furniture. She owned and operated 'George's Cafe' for a couple of years in the 1970s. Glenyce was presently employed by Norcraft Company, Inc. in Cottonwood, a job she had for over 20 years. Glenyce married Ordell Akre in 1979. She was a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Son's of Norway. She loved to go camping, travel, read and knit. Glenyce passed away early Easter Sunday, April 12, 1998 at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital at the age of 58 years, 8 months and 11 days. She is survived by husband, Ordell; father Orville Kompelien of Cottonwood, MN; sons Jeffrey (and Vicky) Lewis of Granite Falls, MN, Todd (and Candace) Lewis of Andover, MN; daughter Lori (and Timothy) Fruin of Cottonwood; three grandchildren, Katie and Cody Fruin and Cassady Lewis. She is also survived by four step-children: Brian (and Ruth) Akre of Zimmerman, MN, Vicky Schrieber of Blaine, MN, Tiffany (and Robert) Ballard and Tammy (and Jon) Summers, both of Nixa, MO. Also surviving are 12 step- grandchildren, Jason, Jayme, Alyessa and Grant Akre, Aaron and Mike Schrieber, Brandon Thomas, Collin Bettis, Elenora and Brittany Ballard, and Amber and Ashley Marco; brothers Darris (and Carol) Kompelien and Verlin Kompelien and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Glenda and granddaughter Meghan Fruin. Blessed be her memory.
