Gladys Elvira Norem was born December 3, 1905, in Swede Prairie Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Sam and Mary (Johnson) Norem. She attended rural school at District 90 and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1925. She took normal training in Clarkfield and taught in various country schools. In 1945 she entered the ministry and was ordained by Rev. Helen Jepsen. She pastored for several years at the Gospel Tabernacle in Milan, Minnesota. Later she returned to teaching until the close of the country schools. She then taught in Granite Falls Public School until her retirement in 1970 following 39 years spent teaching. She continured to make her home in Granite Falls. She attended her 50th class reunion in June 1975. The past six years she had been failing in health. She passed away February 20, 1976, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarkfield. She leaves to mourn her passing, sister, Mabel of Temple City, California; sister, Iva of Canby, Minnesota; sister, Sadie of Clarkfield; 19 nieces and nephews; many grand nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Arthur, Randolph, Henry; one sister Lillian; and one sister in infancy, Myrtle. IN MEMORY OF GLADYS E.
