Gladys Bertha Christensen died Saturday, May 17, 1986, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital. She was born December 8, 1914, in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Gabriel and Barbara (Fenn) Haaland and was baptized January 17, 1915, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Rev. Eastvold. She was confirmed in 1930 at Spring Creek Lutheran Church by Rev. J. E. H. Akre. She attended school in country school District 28. On June 7, 1936, she married Hanford Christensen in the Montevideo Parsonage by Rev. E. A. Tollefson. They were active in farming until their retirement. She was active in the Friendship Mission Circle at the Spring Creek Lutheran Church, where she also taught Sunday School. She is survived by her husband Hanford of rural Boyd, Minnesota; one son, Hanford Jr., his wife Janet and granddaughter Melanie of Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters Christine Aakvik, Minnie Christensen, Annie Christensen, Helen Leasman and Mabel Brandt; and brothers Gustav Haaland, Gerhard Haaland and Karl Haaland. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Ole and Kenneth and her sister Hanna. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 1986, from Spring Creek Lutheran Church with Pastors Bob Lehner and Peter Dorn officiating. Stephanie Rysdahl was organist and David Rupp was solist. Honorary Casket Bearers were Gerhard Anderson, Stanley Carlson, Owen Dotseth, Harland Jacobson, Ishmael Quam and Emil West. Active Casket Bearers were Edward Hanson, James E. Hanson, Marvin Hildahl, Leslie Leasman, Einerd Lund and Jessie Willander.
