Gladys Bestland was born July 5, 1904 at Dawson, Minnesota. She died on November 18, 1998, at the Granite Falls Manor at the age of 94. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Dawson in 1905, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd on May 30, 1920. She married Oscar Bestland at Trinity Lutheran in Boyd on December 15, 1923. They lived on a farm south of Hanley Falls, moving to Hanley Falls after they retired. Gladys entered the Granite Falls Manor in July, 1993. Gladys has three children, daughter Pearl (Ervin) Eye of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, daughter Virginia (Ted) Stech of St. Anthony Village, Minnesota, and son Lyle (Rose) Bestland of New London, Minnesota. She has seven grandchildren, 19 great grand children and 12 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans Kise and Betsy Stensrud Kise; husband, Oscar Bestland; brothers and sisters: Ida, Cora, Manfred, Henry, Lloyd, Forest, and Oscar; and a grandson James Anderson. Gladys worked with her husband and children on the farm and when they moved to town she worked in the restaurant cooking and baking. Gladys loved to crochet, play cards and fish. She liked to dance, especially the waltz. She was a member of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church and active in the Ladies Aid, Hanley Falls Birthday Club, and Senior Citizens Group.
