Gilbert Bernhard Bestland was born June 17, 1893, at Wood Lake Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Halvor and Carrie (Norgaard) Bestland. He was baptized by Rev. Knute Thostenson at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church, Hanley Falls, Minnesota, on July 30, 1893, and was confirmed in the same congregation by Rev. Ole Lokensgaard in 1907. Gilbert Bestland has lived in the vicinity of Hanley Falls all his life and was at the time of his death actively engaged as a building contractor. He was united in marriage to Rebecca Kjelleberg of Hanley Falls on December 19, 1922, at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church by Rev. Ole Lokensgaard. To this union God added his blessing of two sons, Virgil and David and two daughters, Beverly and Phyllis. Gilbert Bestland will long be remembered for his part in the erection of the Parish Education Building adjoining the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church, as the building contractor for this project. He had been in apparent good health until about two months ago. He had suffered several strokes and passed from this life while a patient at the Granite Falls Hospital in the early hours of August 23, 1961, at the age of 68 years. He is survived by his wife Rebecca of Hanley Falls and by his two sons, Virgil Bestland of Fulda, Minnesota, and David Bestland of Hanley Falls, Minnesota; and by his two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Wolfe of Anchorage, Alaska and Mrs. Phillis Carlson of St. Paul; two brothers, Clifford of Chisholm, Minnesota, and Marvin of Minneapolis; and two sisters, Mrs. George Bendix of Willmar, Minnesota, and Miss Belle Bestland of Minneapolis. Gilbert was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Whiting and Mrs. Clara Harris and two brothers, Eddie and Norman and by an infant sister, Jennie. IN MEMORY OF GILBERT B.
