Gertrude Christensen was born May 23, 1869, in Pommerania, Germany, of the parents, John and Frederika Rosenfeld. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of three years, she came with her parents to America and settled on a farm south of Wood Lake, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Martin Christensen in 1891. They took up residence on a homestead located 12 miles south of Cottonwood, Minnesota, where they lived until 1907 when they moved to Brainerd, Minnesota. In 1910 they moved to Hazel Run where they operated a restaurant for 16 years before retiring. Her husband passed away in 1939. Three weeks ago Mrs. Christensen's health began to fail and she passed away Monday evening, July 11, 1960. She is survived by the following children: B.W. Christensen of Minneapolis, Mrs. Alfred Tollefson of Oakland, California, Mrs. Henry Just of Wood Lake, Minnesota, Mrs. Elmer Haugland of Hazel Run, Minnesota, and Mary Christensen of Canby, Minnesota. A daughter, May, passed away at the age of three months, and a daughter, Minnie (Mrs. Charles Wolf) passed away in February, 1947. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Emma Hohnsteadt of St. Peter, Minnesota; a brother, John Rosenfeld of Washburn, Wisconsin, and 18 grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
