Obituary

Gertie Irene (Gilbertson) Stevens, 78, died Friday, February 6, 1987, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson, Minnesota. Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 10, 1987 from the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd, Minnesota, with Pastor Jeff Swanson officiating. Organist was Minnie Hermanson. The Senior Choir sang "Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts" and "Praise Ye the Triune God." The Congregational Hymn was "The Old Rugged Cross." Casket Bearers were Bryan, Daniel and Keith Saue, Allen, Gary, and Kevin Stevens. Final Resting Place is the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of Boyd. Gertie was born January 20, 1909, to John and Ida (Dahl) Gilbertson near Boyd. She was baptized in St. Petri Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. She has been a member of Trinity Lutheran her entire lifetime. She attended rural school in the Boyd area and married Ralph Stevens in December of 1930. They first farmed north of Boyd and later three miles east of Boyd where they farmed until 1938 when Ralph passed away. She and her children moved to the home place where they lived with her parents, Ida and John and brothers, Ed and Harry Gilbertson. Ed and Gertie lived on the home place until 1985, when they sold the farm and purchased a home in Dawson. She and Ed were residing in Dawson at the time of her death. She had many fine attributes. She loved people, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed cooking and baking so she could serve others. In past years, while still on the farm, she cultivated a large garden and was heavily involved in a variety of farm chores. She is survived by sons, Marvin of Bird Island, Minnesota, and Vernon of Dawson; grandchildren, Scott, Allen and Gary Stevens of Bird Island and Kevin Stevens of Benson, Minnesota, Daniel Saue of Willmar, Minnesota, Beverly Saue of Westfield- Dawson, Bryan Saue of Crystal, Minnesota, and Keith Saue of Great Lakes, Illinois; brothers, Ed of Dawson and Arnold of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister Alma (Mrs. Peder) Eidem of Montevideo, Minnesota; and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and John, her husband Ralph, her daughter Ardis Saue, her granddaughter Laurie, an infant grandson, an infant great granddaughter and brothers George and Harry.
