Gerhard Augustine Fossen was born February 17, 1886, at Bricelyn, Minnesota, the son of George and Anna (Faunes) Fossen, one of a large family of children. He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Sandvig, in the Dell Lutheran Church in that locality. Coming to Clarkfield as a young man, Mr. Fossen was employed for a number of years as a plumber in one of the local hardware stores. In 1911 he married Alma Heller, of Wood Lake, Minnesota. To this union three daughters were born, all three of which survive their father, namely LuVerna (Mrs. Toivo Elo) of Minneapolis, Adeline (Mrs. Elmer Tongen) of Benson, Minnesota, and Marion (Mrs. Kermit Ness) of Clarkfield. His wife passed away August 10, 1948. Other survivors are three brothers: Alfred Hendrickson of Madison, Minnesota, Juel Hendrickson and Gustav Hendrickson of Wells, Minnesota; four sisters: Mrs. Cora Youman of Charles City, Iowa, Mrs. Bertha Northwick of Bricelyn, Minnesota, Mrs. Selma Vollrath of Blue Earth, Minnesota, and Mrs. Mina Holan of Dawson, Minnesota. For the past 20 years, Mr. Fossen had been conducting a plumbing business of his own.
