Gerhard Raymond Elmer Haaland was born March 25, 1917 on a farm in Friendship Township, Minnesota to parents, Gabriel and Barbara (Isakson) Haaland. He was baptized on May 13, 1917 at the Bethlehem Church by Rev. Eastvold and later confirmed by Rev. C.M. Tollefron at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Hanley Falls, Minnesota. He attended Pleasant View School in District 28. Gerhard married Myrtle (Rekkedahl) Christensen on November 2, 1950 at Benson, Minnesota. He farmed in Normania Township for many years. He passed away at the Canby Community Health Services on Thursday, July 6, 1995 at the age of 78 years, 3 months, and 12 days. Gerhard enjoyed antique shows, visiting, dancing, and helping others. Gerhard is survived by stepchildren: Marquita and husband Perry Banks and Kaye and wife Marlys Christensen; sisters: Minnie Christensen, Annie Christensen, Mabel Brandt, and Helen (husband Bruce) Leasman and brother Karl (wife Viola) Haaland, and sister-in-law Mildred Haaland and brother-in-law Hanford Christensen. He is also survived by seven step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren, friend Florene Sampson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle in 1985; father,Gabriel in 1929 and mother, Barbara in 1971. Also, sisters: Christine Aakvik, Hannah Evenson, and Gladys Christensen and brothers: Ole, Kenneth, and Gustav; and niece Karen Haaland and nephew Gregory Brandt. Blessed be his memory.
