Gerda Nelson was born to Haakon and Bertha (Haakenson) Nelson in Ten Mile Lake Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota, on August 5, 1909. She was baptized September 19, 1909, and confirmed June 22, 1924, both at Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd, Minnesota. Gerda attended rural school in District 90 and graduated from high school in Boyd. She was a homemaker who enjoyed baking for church and other activities. Gardening and flowers were her special hobbies as well as quilting at church. She was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Choir and the ALCW Dorcus Society. Gerda passed away at her home in rural Boyd on Saturday, October 14, 1989, at the age of 80. Gerda was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Helmer, Melvin, Martin, Carl, Arthur, Floyd and Hilman; and five sisters, Hannah, Jennie, Inga, Esther, Harriet. She is survived by a brother-in-law, Lyman Sack and a sister-in-law, Marge Nelson and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Gerda Nelson will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 1989, at 2:00 p.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd with Pastor Jeff Swanson officiating. Organist will be Vernon Stevens with vocal music by the Trinity Lutheran Church Choir. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery of Boyd.
