Geraldine "Gerry" Maurine (Coubal) Leenerts was born November 3, 1943, at Redwood Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph and Ernestine (Daun) Coubal. She was baptized at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. She moved with her family to Hazel Run in 1952. She was confirmed at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Granite Falls. She graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1961. In 1962 she meet the love of her life, Kenneth Leenerts. They were married September 15, 1962. The were blessed with six children. Gerry was a loving mom. She did so much for her children. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years and during that time was a "babysitter" for many kids. She would sew for her children, serve as a girl scout leader and room mother and she was active in church, serving on the board at St. Isidore. Gerry's first job was a waitress at Stamson Cafe in Montevideo and also in Clarkfield at the local restaurant, the mushroom plant, and also at the bakery. Her favorite job was as a cook at school. She loved seeing the kids everyday. Gerry made sure to acknowledge if the student had a new haircut or new clothes. On her 60th birthday the students each brought her a rose, so she received 60 roses. Gerry had her first heart attack in 2004 and then retired in 2005. In 1993 Gerry was so excited to become a grandma for the first time. She had eight grandchildren who were her life. Like her children, she followed her grandchildren's activities and she enjoyed all their activities, sporting events and more. She was so proud of each of them.
