Obituary

Gerald Aldon Enger (December 4, 1934 ~ August 19, 2010) Gerald Aldon Enger was born December 4, 1934, in Echo, Minnesota, to George Alfred and Alma (Kvendru) Enger. He attended country school near his home and graduated from Echo High School in 1953. Gerald was united in marriage to Lillian Thostenson on September 5, 1959, in Hanley Falls, Minnesota. The couple lived and raised their family in Hanley Falls. Gerald worked at Varpness Implement in Echo as a mechanic and farmed near Echo and Hanley Falls for almost 50 years. He truly enjoyed a good conversation; playing cards, especially Pinochle; bowled in two Granite Falls leagues; golfing; and racing his Ford at the tracks in Montevideo and Renville. He played and coached the Hanley Falls softball team in the 1970s and 80s. He enjoyed hunting deer early in life with his sons. He was able to watch all his sons and all but his youngest grandson (who sat with Gerald) play softball in the tournaments during the Hanley Falls Threshing Show last week. His faith was very important to him, and he was an active member of the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir and was Superintendent of the Sunday School. He served on the Hanley Falls City Council for a number of years and was a First Responder and Firefighter and secretary of the Fire Department. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve. Gerald passed away at the Granite Falls Hospital on Thursday, August 19, at 3:45 a.m. He is survived by his wife, Lillian, sons: Allen (Patricia) of Canby, Minnesota, Gary (Judy) of Hanley Falls and David (Erin) on New Hope, Minnesota. He is also survived by grandchildren: Arron (Kristy), Christina, Wyatt, Jessica (Lance) Citrowske, Jamie, Holly (Dane) Sherod, Travis, and Brady. He is also survived by two great-grandsons: Mason Sherod and Lane Citrowske; his Uncle John Kvendru; and siblings: Junith (Louis) Freiborg, Donald (Marlys), Beverly Kissner, Joann (Curt) Pettis; sister-in-law Linda Enger; brother-in-law Fran Scherer; brother and sister-in-law Galen and Wanyce Thostenson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Brian; infant daughter; grandson Robert; brother Marvin; brother-in-law Ronald Kissner; father and mother in law Tom and Lydia Thostenson; sister- in-law Marlys Thostenson Scherer; and brother-in-law Edwin Thostenson.
