George M. Stangeland was born on September 10, 1930 at Gary, South Dakota, to parents Robert and Alma (Converse) Stangeland. He attended school and graduated from Gary High School. George married Betty M. Sueverkruepp on June 3, 1951 at Gary, South Dakota. Seven children were born to this union: Randy, Danny, Deanna, Lori, Mike, Tony, and Duane. George served in Korea from 1952-1954. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed Softball and working on small engines. He was employed at AMPI for 30 years. George and Betty have made their home in Clarkfield, MN since 1970. George had a stroke in August of 1995 and entered the Clarkfield Care Center in October of 1995. He passed away at the Care Center on Monday evening, December 1, 1997 at the age of 67 years, 3 months, and 22 days. He is survived by his wife Betty, of Clarkfield and his children: Danny (and Tammy) of Marshall, MN, daughter Deanna (and Jim) Sopland of Clarkfield, daughter Lori (and Brian) Schandorff of Montevideo, MN son Mike (and Sherry) of Clarkfield, son Tony (and Joan) of Montevideo, MN and son Duane (and Julie) of Marshall, MN plus 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Robert, Donald, Oscar (and Avis), sisters Emma Synstad, Elenor Primmer, and Florence Maxinoski. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Fred, Floyd, Clarence, and Herman; son Randy Lee; and grandson Javin Lee Muilenburg. Blessed be his memory.
