Obituary

George Nelvin Silver was born April 17, 1898, in Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Peter N. and Elida (Erickson) Silver. He was baptized as an infant into the Lutheran faith and confirmed in 1913 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Clarkfield by the Rev. C.A. Larson. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1917 and served aboard the U.S.S. Mississippi during World War I. After receiving his discharge in 1919 he worked for several years in California. On May 19, 1923, he was united in marriage to Rose Feist of this community and to this union four children were born. In 1924 he was hired as a truck driver when the Consumers Co-op Oil Company was organized. He was still affiliated with this firm at the time of his death, the only original employee still working there. He was a lifelong member of his church, which is presently the Augustana Lutheran Church. He served on the Clarkfield Fire Department and was a member of the American Legion. He was well- known in the area and a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was taken ill on October 6, 1970, and was a patient at the Clarkfield Hospital when he slept peacefully away on October 14, 1970, at the age of 72 years. Surviving him are his wife, Rose; his four children: Donna (Mrs. Arthur Frederickson) of Minneapolis, George, Jr. of West St. Paul, Minnesota, Richard of Clarkfield, and Catherine (Mrs. Delas Kirkeby) of Alexandria, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; two brothers: Victor of Clarkfield and Alfred of Minneapolis; two sisters: Evelyn (Mrs. Kenneth Keith) of Boulder, Colorado, and Hazel (Mrs. A.J.
