Obituary

George Kristian Quam, the son of Peder and Inga Bertina (Christensen) Quam, was born December 9, 1877, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized on January 27, 1878, by Rev. Knute Thorstenson, pastor of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church, at the Theodore Myhre home. He was confimed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church by Rev. Thorstenson in 1892. George attended public school in districts 25 and 86. In 1897 he secured a farm southwest of Clarkfield where he farmed all his life until December, 1958, when a stroke disabled him and he was hospitalized in Clarkfield. In February of 1959, he entered the Earle Meyer home in Sacred Heart where he resided until he passed away on Saturday, March 30, 1963. George Quam was united in marriage to Aaste Annette Oraas of Normania Township by the Rev. O.T. Storaasli at Spring Creek Lutheran Church on July 21, 1910. To this union a son, Ishmael, and a daughter, Orda, were born. A second son died at birth. Mr. Quam was an active member of Spring Creek Lutheran Church until he entered the rest home in Sacred Heart. He passed away March 30, 1963, at the Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Sacred Heart, Minnesota, at the age of 85 years. Preceding him in death were his wife, Aaste, who passed away in May of 1949; two sisters, Nettie and Bertha; and his parents. He is survived by his son, Ishmael of Clarkfield; his daughter, Mrs. Harry Mortenson of St. Paul; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. John Knutson of Milaca, Minnesota, and Mrs. Julia Peterson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two brothers: Herman of Milaca, Minnesota, and Edwin of Isle, Minnesota; and a host of other relatives.
