Obituary

George Jensen, the son of Hans and Christina (Pepper) Jensen, was born July 27, 1889, at Manilla, Iowa, in Crawford County. As an infant he was baptized by Rev. A. Ehlars. As a young man, George went west to Wyoming where he took a homestead and there met Clara M. Thompson of Moorcraft, Wyoming, whom he married on June 15, 1918. Shortly after the marriage, he left for service in WWI and served with a cavalry unit. He rejoined his wife in January of 1919 and the couple farmed in Wyoming until 1929 when they moved to Superior, Iowa, where they remained until March of 1941 when they moved to the former Forberg farm east of Clarkfield. They observed their golden wedding last June at the local Methodist Church. They retired about a year ago and purchased the Adolph Nelson home. The couple was blessed with eight children, six of whom survive: Frederick and Virgil of Clarkfield, Alfred and Fayette of International Falls, Minnesota, Erma (Mrs. Alvern Olson) of Everett, Washington, and Esther (Mrs. Curtis Hanson) of Montevideo. His daughter, Thelma, preceded him in death when she was 21 years of age, and Mary Jane as an infant. Also preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Anna Hamm; two brothers: Chris and Alfred; and a great grandson, James Brian Wichner. Along with his six children, he is survived by his wife, Clara; sixteen grandchildren; two great grandsons; two sisters: Mrs. Marie Bloss of Grove City, Iowa, and Milda Hedges of Milford, Iowa; two brothers: Garhardt Jensen of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Amil Jensen of Truman, Minnesota.
